Colorado Food Tax Rebate Program: Who Can Get It and How Much?
Boulder residents can apply for the food tax rebate program starting March 1. Eligible individuals can receive $104 in food rebates, and families can receive $318. The city launched the program on February 15 of this year.
To qualify for the Colorado Food Tax Rebate Program, an individual must have an annual income of $46,500 or less, with the standard income for a family of two being $53,150 ($66,400 for a family of four). Applicants must also reside in Boulder in 2023, be at least 62 years old, have a disability, or be a family member with a child under 18 at home.
People without permanent shelter can also receive the credit and “meet the residency requirement by providing documentation that they are receiving services from a city-recognized homeless services agency,” the program’s website says.
Boulder has had a food tax rebate program since 1967 to help low-income city residents save money. Last year, the city distributed nearly 1,100 food tax rebates worth about $162,000, including 679 to seniors, 267 to families and the rest to people with disabilities.
It is important to note that people who applied for the food rebate program last year will automatically receive an application for 2024. Others can obtain an application form on the city’s website. Applicants can also fill out the actual application form. The application submission deadline is June 30.

2024 TABOR Refunds in Colorado
Separately, eligible Coloradans will be able to receive a TABOR refund in spring 2024. Individual filers can receive $800, and joint filers can receive $1,600.
Colorado sent out a total of $3 billion in refunds last year, resulting in checks of $750 for single filers and $1,500 for joint filers. It is estimated that in 2024, states will send nearly $3.7 billion in TABOR refunds.
To be eligible for a 2024 TABOR refund, you must file a 2023 DR 0104 by April 15, 2024. Additionally, the person must be at least 18 years old at the start of the tax year and have no Colorado income taxes. Must be a Colorado resident for the entire 2023 tax year.
Before this year, TABOR refunds were based on the taxpayer’s income level, but the new law standardizes the payments. This means that taxpayers with higher incomes will receive lower payments than usual, while taxpayers with lower incomes will receive higher refunds.
