$75 Montgomery Property Tax Refund Deadline: Apply by December 31
Montgomery, Illinois residents have until the end of the year to apply for the Village’s tax refund program. Eligible residents will receive $75 in Montgomery property tax rebates. Those who have not yet applied can easily apply online.
Montgomery Property Tax Refund: How to Apply
Each year, the Village of Montgomery offers property tax rebates to eligible residents. Officials began accepting applications for 2022 Montgomery property tax refunds in October, with the application deadline being December 31 at 11:59 p.m.
“We cannot promise that this program will always exist. As our infrastructure ages, it is important to invest funds to keep Montgomery a great place to live, work and play. But when we can get money back to our residents, we have to do what we can,” Village President Matt Brolley said in October.
Residents must apply for a Montgomery property tax refund online to receive their refund during the designated period. It is important to note that all applications are subject to approval.
If you have not applied yet, we recommend that you apply before the weekend as only in-person or phone support is available until December 29th due to the Lunar New Year holiday. Help is available in person at Village Hall, 200 N. River St., Montgomery, Illinois, Monday through Friday (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
Residents must visit the Montgomery website to apply for a refund. Applicants should retain a copy of their Kane or Kendall County tax bill, as all information needed to complete the application is on the resident’s county tax bill.
“Please obtain a copy of your county tax bill before completing the online application. If you do not have a copy of your tax bill, obtain a copy online from the county where your property resides,” the program website states.
The online application is simple and should not take more than 10 minutes to complete.
Who will get it?
To receive a Montgomery property tax refund, applicants must have held legal or equitable ownership of a residential property between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022. If the owner is the applicant but the property is a rental, the owner must ensure that no one else applies for a refund on the property.
Montgomery Village utility-only customers, such as Boulder Hill residents, do not pay taxes to the Village and therefore are not eligible for the rebate. Additionally, those who sell their property within 2022 will not be eligible for the rebate.
Montgomery has been offering property refunds since 2015. Selected applicants can receive reimbursement in two ways: by paper check or as a credit on their village utility bill. The credit will be applied to your utility bill account on or about April 1, 2024.
It is the property owner’s responsibility to report the refund to the IRS when filing their annual taxes.
