Kraken, ETF Issuer and Other Crypto Giants Pass Super Bowl Ad: Fox Business
In 2022, Coinbase reportedly spent $14 million on 60-second QR code ads that move around the screen. But after a year without Super Bowl cryptocurrency advertising, it is currently unclear whether the country’s largest exchanges plan to advertise during Sunday’s Super Bowl, one of the country’s biggest marketing opportunities.
According to Fox Business, many other major cryptocurrency companies have already confirmed that they are carrying ads for the big game, including Kraken, the country’s second-largest exchange. Bitcoin spot ETF issuers including BlackRock and Grayscale are not expected to advertise during the game, as Super Bowl advertising slots sold out in November, well before spot ETFs were approved last month.
While not shocking in the aftermath of the FTX collapse, it is a dramatic reversal from the cryptocurrency-focused advertising of 2022. Some celebrities who once advertised on the exchange, including legendary football player Tom Brady and comedian Larry David, who appeared in the company’s 2022 Super Bowl commercial, have been accused of improperly profiting from FTX. I got sued.
Some Web3 companies are promoting their products in other ways as well. Dapper Labs, the NFL All Day team, promoted Super Bowl-related NFT drops featuring retired legends and multiple Super Bowl champions Joe Montana and John Elway in conjunction with the NFL Playoffs leading up to the Super Bowl.
The Super Bowl airs tomorrow, with the San Francisco 49ers taking on the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas starting at 3:30 PM local time.
