Nick Szabo confirmed as keynote speaker for Ethereum DEVCON1.

London, UK, October 22 – The Ethereum Foundation is pleased to announce the keynote speakers for the Ethereum Annual Conference. DΞVCON1, Nick Szabo. Nick’s keynote will focus on the history of blockchain, smart contracts, and blockchain assets.

Nick is a computer scientist, legal scholar, and cryptographer known for his research on digital contracts and digital currencies. The phrase and concept of “smart contracts” was developed by Szabo with the intention of merging contract law into the programming protocols of the Internet.

Recently, Szabo contrasted Ethereum’s use of smart contracts with the Bitcoin blockchain, saying, “If you want a flexible, general-purpose programming environment like the one programmers have been using since at least the 1950s, you want: The reason to use Ethereum is because it has a Turing complete language and large-scale state. I sometimes compare pocket calculators (Bitcoin) and general-purpose computers (Ethereum).”

DΞVCON1 will be held at Gibson Hall in London, England from November 9th to 13th. It will feature five days of technical presentations and events covering research and core protocols, decentralized application (dApp) development, and industry and societal impact.
