How to Set Up a SIA Host – Windows Tutorial
SIA is a decentralized storage network that allows tenants to keep their data secure and 100% private. Some of the key selling points are that SIA offers very competitive pricing per terabyte of information stored due to its decentralized nature.
All transactions within the network are made using SIA coins, and there are three ways to get your hands on them.
SIA Hosting and Mining
Mining supports the decentralized nature of the SIA blockchain. For example, like Ethereum, SIA requires a lot of hash power to maintain decentralization and reliability. That’s why it’s done using GPUs and ASICs. (although only the latter is somewhat profitable at the moment).
Hosting, on the other hand, does not generate SIA coins. Instead, hosts create decentralized storage products provided by SIA. Any coins you earn through hosting are coins someone paid to rent storage space on the network.
SIA Coin – What should I do?
You can trade it, hold it (Sia-UI wallet), or use it to buy cheap cloud storage and keep your files safe.
How to Host a SIA
Let’s get to the meat of the article.
One) Above all, you must: Minimum Requirements:
- Have a PC that runs 24/7. Up to 14 hours of downtime per month
- have At least 4TB of free storage space (Ideally, always more 4TB or more is free and increases your host score). Depending on the deals you find, 6TB hard drives usually offer the best price per TB. Used hard drives will also work.
- stable internet connection No data limit
- good bandwidth. To give some examples, at least 6Mbps to get a score of 2/10 and 10Mbps to get 5/10. The higher your score, the more likely you are to get a contract. Plus, you’ll earn the most money uploading and downloading files rather than storing them. A good internet connection is important.
- Minimum $ Owned4-10 SIA coins worth (At the time of posting, there are approximately 2,000-4,000 SCs.)
- promise. This is about strategy. If you stop hosting while you have an active contract, you will lose money. It also takes a few weeks to build up a good track record and get your node to a good rank, so make sure you can commit to hosting before you actually start.
2) Here are a few: extra That might help you:
- battery backup – If the power goes out, especially if your electricity supplier has proven unreliable in the past.
- Linux OS – You can host it on Windows, but Linux is a better option, so use it instead if you can. This time we will use Windows.
- solar panel – If you live in a sunny area, having one of those can help you save money in the long run.
three) get the rights software
- SIA Wallet – The first thing you need is an official SIA wallet. You can use it to store your SIA coins and even upload and download files if you decide to become a lessor and use your mined SIA tokens.
- SIA Host Manager – This is an open source tool that we highly recommend using for host management. Although you can use SIA Wallet alone, siacentral’s host manager has some useful features that you won’t want to miss. This allows you to monitor connection status, add, remove, and resize storage folders, change host configuration, get advanced metrics, and perform other useful tasks.
- Host page on SIAStats.com – SIAStats is a very useful website that allows you to monitor a host and see how much SIA likes it. The SIA Network uses a ranking system to determine which hosts will appear to renters first. A higher rank means more contract possibilities. It’s important to keep an eye on your host as well as other hosts.
- SIAStats has an alarm feature that notifies you as soon as a host goes offline or any other problem occurs. The mobile version is very convenient, so we recommend you try it.

How to set up a SIA host
Once everything is ready, follow these steps to install and configure your SIA host.
Install SIA Wallet and Host Manager
1) Port forwarding router settings
First you need to forward the following ports: 9980, 9981, 9982, 9983. This can be done on your router. If this is your first time, this is a very useful article!
2) Install Sia Wallet
- Download from official website https://sia.tech/get-started
- Install, create a new wallet (if you already have one, select Import from Seed), save the seed, wait for full sync.
- To skip the pending bootstrap download here: https://siastats.info/consensus.html, once downloaded (remember to close your SIA-UI wallet completely) “C:\Users\Users\AppData\Roaming\Sia-UI\sia\” and upload the archive contents there (replace files and folders). Restart Sia-UI and wait for full synchronization.
- Once synced, go to your dashboard, click on Wallet and select “more” Select Change Password in the top right, use the seed as your current password, then enter your new password. If you do not have a password set, your wallet will request a seed every time you open it.
- movement “receive” tab, create a new address and copy it. I’ll use it later.
3) Install and configure Sia Host Manager
- Download latest version SIA Host Manager From here https://github.com/siacentral/host-manager/releases/
- Install and select ‘.incomeWhen prompted to import configuration from ” Sia-UI Wallet (Automatically imports wallet address and sync process)
- leave “daemon flag” It will stay the same unless you want to change it.
- Send 3,000 SIA to your newly created wallet address (if you don’t own it, you can buy SIA here).complete” When funds are transferred.
- connection: You will find connection issues on the first run, but don’t worry. We will solve the problem in the next steps.
- save: Add space to host manager
- SIA Host Pricing Configuration (You can set your own prices here):
- Contract price: 0.30SC
- Storage Pricing: 460SCTB/m
- collateral: 920SC
- Maximum contract period: 6 months
- Download price: 460SC/TB
- Registry size: 10GB
- Host Announcement
- Optional, but recommended (even required if you use storj on the same system). Before you know this, you can set up custom DNS on your host. I personally use duiadns.net (completely free and very easy to use).
- Sign up, verify your account, create a hostname (e.g. siahost.duia.eu), download the Windows client installation, run it and enter your hostname and account password. It starts automatically in Windows and you don’t need to do anything else here.
- You are now ready to announce hosts on the SIA network using custom DNS addresses.
- movement “composition” tab, at the top right, click “ OKacceptance of contractClick “, “.announce“, enter a custom hostname, e.g.: siahost.duia.eu:9982“Host Announcement“
- Now the host starts the list. This will take some time as the system benchmarks your hosts and provides scores based on your configuration and internet speed (e.g. https://siastats.info/hosts?=233).

Everything you need to know about SIA Host Rankings
Your rank, also known as the Host Score Index, determines how many contracts you can get. When looking for a node to host data, tenants introduce the price they are willing to pay, and the system provides the best host in that price category. This means: Lower fees don’t necessarily mean you’ll get more contracts.. If you want to get to the top, here’s what you need to know:
- uptime – This is the most important factor. Your host must have good uptime and Run the latest software version. The network keeps a record of uptime, so try to keep it as close to 100% as possible. From the 1st. SIA receives software updates regularly, so check for updates at least once every two weeks.
- As your remaining storage capacity is deducted, your ranking will drop. 4TB or less. If that happens, your rank will be immediately reduced to whooping cough. 50% Until you free up space or add more storage.
- price – Setting the right price is important. If the price is too low, motivation will be low. If you haven’t already, check out my article detailing how to set your hosting price as high as possible without losing your contract.
- Host age Your ranking is as follows 50% below About what it should be until it gets there. 42 days mark. There is no way to fix this problem. Keeping hosts live with good uptime results in better performance.
memo: Your rankings will be a mess for the first few days after you launch your node. it’s okay. During that time, your host may get a very low ranking. Don’t panic. Let your network benchmark your hosts for a week or so before drawing any conclusions.
The SIA network has nodes on three servers around the world that continuously monitor the activity of hosts. bandwidth, uptime and delay time. These tests are called ‘benchmarks’ and determine the ranking of hosts. I don’t mind having better latency and upload/download speeds with one of them.
My position is good, but I barely get any contracts, what’s the problem?
Two factors that can affect your contract are:
- You may need to adjust your prices slightly. Check out your competitors.
- Since there are quite a few nodes geographically close together, there are more offers than demand.
- In that sense, the network itself is still small. Patience is key here. It will take some time to fill all the spaces.
SIA Mining
Currently, the only profitable way to mine SIA coins is using ASICs. GPU mining is possible, but no longer profitable. An algorithm change occurred at SIA that blocked most existing ASICs, leaving only the Obelisk SC-1 device compatible with the new algorithm. The device is not currently for sale, and although it is available from third parties on the site, the combination of high price and low profitability makes it an option that few people will be interested in.
as a result
SIA node hosting is not for everyone, but it is very simple and easy. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out my analysis of hosting profitability. We need that information to set prices correctly.
If you can’t afford to run a powerful PC as your Sia host, you can buy a RaspberryPi with 4GB of RAM. Either way, try it, but don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
thank you May Siebel (Co-founder and COO) storewise.tech Thank you for proving to me most of what I know about SIA Hosting and Renting. Meije Sibbel says she knows SIA in detail and she is currently developing the S3 API interface for Sia. Storewise.tech is a platform built on SIA with similar features to wetransfer.com. It’s a great platform and I can personally recommend it. I’ve been using it for a while and now I’m not looking back.
