(Reuters) – The United States is increasing sanctions on several Chinese technology companies, including chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies, in a bid to further curb China’s development of advanced semiconductors, Bloomberg News said on Friday.

Citing people familiar with the matter, the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security said it was considering adding Changxin, along with five Chinese companies, to a so-called list of entities that restrict access to U.S. technology.

The department and bureau did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

ChangXin Memory Technologies says it “specializes in producing commercial DRAM memory chips for everyday consumer products, with a particular focus on civil and commercial applications.”

The company said in a statement to Reuters on Sunday that it complies with U.S. export regulations.

Reuters reported that the United States last year blocked imports from the US to a major SMIC factory after it produced chips for Huawei’s Mate 60 Pro phone.

These efforts have halted shipments of millions of dollars worth of chipmaking materials and components from at least one supplier, Entegris (NASDAQ:).

The United States has moved aggressively in recent months to block shipments of advanced AI chips to China in an effort to prevent China from embracing cutting-edge American technology that could bolster its military.
