Senator Cynthia Lummis will speak in Washington, D.C. about U.S. competitiveness in Bitcoin mining.
According to a press release sent to: Bitcoin Magazine, U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) will join Fred Thiel, CEO of Marathon Digital Holdings (NASDAQ:MARA), in Washington, D.C. to discuss the importance of keeping Bitcoin mining competitive in the United States .

In a statement delivered to Bitcoin Magazine, David Zell (BPI co-founder), a Bitcoin advocate, acknowledged Lummis’ foresight. “Senator Lummis has long understood how important it is for the United States to get public policy on digital assets right… When onlookers predicted the end of cryptocurrencies after FTX, Senator Lummis predicted correctly. He emphasized the importance and regulation of Bitcoin.”
The Bitcoin Policy Summit, scheduled for April 9, 2024 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., comes at a time of heightened partisan tensions regarding Bitcoin and Bitcoin mining. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) under the Biden administration has proposed an ‘urgent’ investigation into Bitcoin miners and their energy usage. The proposed emergency investigation was later canceled due to pushback from industry representatives, including Riot Platforms (NASDAQ:RIOT) and the Texas Blockchain Council.
Along with Lummis and Thiel, the Bitcoin Policy Summit will feature presentations from human rights activists, academics, and technology leaders from around the world with the goal of setting the record straight about Bitcoin in the context of federal and local policymaking.
