Highlights from the Web3 Gaming Summit in Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s Web3 Gaming Summit grandly kicked off on April 8, 2024 at 2:00 PM (UTC+8) in the 3rd floor hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. Respected experts from leading industry organizations covered various aspects of Web3 games, from game technology to business models, industry trends and future developments, through three keynotes and three panel discussions. Meanwhile, the ICC Camp event, the industry’s first Web3 gaming accelerator, was successfully concluded. 31 startup teams from ICC Camp S1 presented their projects and took the stage to share their entrepreneurial insights and experiences. This officially marks the end of the offline Entrepreneurship Course at ICC Camp S1.
During the keynote address delivered by ABGA CEO Yoka Zhou, the focus was to explore Asia’s leading position in the global Web3 gaming ecosystem. Yoka Zhou explored how Asia is leveraging its vibrant developer community, large user base, and efficient infrastructure to achieve significant results in the Web3 gaming space. She also emphasized the region’s pivotal role in shaping the future of gaming, emphasizing Asia’s spirit of innovation and the importance of top-tier public chains in the gaming industry. ABGA and the ICC Camp are committed to fostering this momentum, fostering collaboration, and promoting excellence in Web3 game development.
Abin Arjun, founder and CEO of Aura, detailed Aura’s vision for the future of game development and its impact on the global gaming ecosystem. He also explored the bright prospects of esports in the Web3 gaming sector. He highlights the potential of future esports by combining Aura’s innovative concept with the application of Web3 technology, and leverages blockchain technology to drive the development of the esports industry, providing more opportunities and innovation for both players and developers. Khaniff Lau, Business Development Director at aelf, demonstrated aelf’s exciting potential in revolutionizing the Web3 gaming environment. Through a dual perspective analysis from player and developer perspectives, Lau explored how Elf’s advanced blockchain technology is redefining the future of gaming. ICC Awards Ceremony
Kevin Shao, founder of ICC Camp, chairman of ABGA and co-founder of Bitrise Capital, graced the event to introduce ICC Camp, the industry’s most focused, experienced and professional Web3 game accelerator. Kevin Shao also announced the official launch of ICC Camp S2, showcasing ICC’s strong resource ecosystem and visionary launch. The ICC Awards presented a spectacular showcase of 31 outstanding startup projects from ICC Camp S1. Representatives from five projects took the stage to share insights gained from ICC Camp and expressed boundless excitement for potential projects to join ICC Camp S2.
A panel discussion on ‘Does the future of Web3 gaming require a supporting ecosystem?’ was led by Denzel Lim, head of business development and ecosystem growth at aelf, various project heads, and Steven Cao, founder and head of growth at GaFin. Chris Chodakowski, founder of Wizarre Stormfights; We sat down with John, founder of Project Schrodinger, to discuss the future of the Web3 game support ecosystem. Guests shared their perspectives and engaged in enthusiastic and constructive discussions on how to build a more supportive ecosystem. Their insights made the audience aware of the importance of a strong ecosystem supporting Web3 game development.
Chris Zhu, CEO of Sonic SVM/Mirror World, moderated the second panel discussion of the event. This panel discussion, titled ‘The Future of Web3 Games – From the Perspective of Public Chains’, featured representatives from various top public chains and provided the latest analysis on the future of Web3 games. The discussion was moderated by Anderson Sima, Editor-in-Chief of DeThings, and Adam Jin, Advisor to the Solana Foundation; Sarah S, APAC BD Lead, BNB Chain; Pascal So, Product Market Strategy, Starkware; This is John Cho, Vice President of Marketing at Klaytn Foundation. Together, they analyzed the future of Web3 gaming from a public chain perspective, covering topics such as scalability solutions and the crypto ecosystem. Their insights provided valuable perspective on the evolution of gaming in the Web3 era.
