Paris Summary: EthCC + EthGlobal
We had a productive week in Paris attending The DAOist, EthCC and EthGlobal! Read our takeaways from these events and check out our recordings of talks and workshops to keep up to date.
The team’s takeaways:
Here are some general takeaways from the conference gathered by our team:
- The future of permission management is cross-chain as products launch their own app chains and L2s.
- Account abstraction is the future and allows for a better overall user experience.
- There is general optimism that many important use cases for cryptocurrencies will be solved.
- To scale a DAO, child DAOs, fine-grained permissions, and credentials are essential.
- Several players are working to solve the carbon offset tokenization problem. Cryptocurrencies may be well-positioned to become a channel through which much of this capital flows.
- Even in the depths of a bear market, major conferences like EthCC are a bright spot!
Workshop Recording: Building a Custom DAO in a Few Lines of Code
WHO: Juliette Chevalier, Developer Advocate
Preview what to expect in the recording:
Juliette shows how to use Aragon OSx to build an immutable organization on top of an immutable blockchain.
She explains how to use plugins to customize DAOs and build mutable organizations. Plugins can be governance mechanisms, financial management strategies, ecosystem integrations, etc.
We then provide demos on how to build, deploy, and publish your plugin!

Talk recording: Aragon OSx: Unix on Ethereum
WHO: Jordi Moraleda, one of the main developers of Aragon OSx.
Preview what to expect in the recording:
Jordi discussed how Aragon OSx is built on Unix philosophy.
- simple: Write a program that does one thing well.
- Modularity, configurability: Write programs that work together.
- flexibility: Allows functionality to be reused in other situations.
In Unix, everything is a file. In OSx everything is permissions.
Here are some basic principles of the Unix philosophy that we’ve applied to OSx:
- one of the right ways to do things: So there is no confusion.
- Be clear about what you do.: There is no hidden magic. Anyone can use this protocol.
- Pay only for the features you actually use: Gas saving benefits due to the modularity of this protocol.
- Easy to understand, check and infer.: It is uncomplicated and uncomplicated, which helps with the security of the protocol.
Aragon OSx plug-ins, like apps that you install and uninstall on your computer, fit into this philosophy because they solve small customization problems. You can iterate quickly without having to reinvent the wheel every time.

Talk Recording: DAO Experiment Story
WHO: Anthony Leutenegger, Head of Growth
Preview what to expect in the recording:
Anthony introduces the history of Aragon and the various DAO experiments we have run internally. Aragon Network DAO was an experiment launched in 2021. It used optimistic governance, with a long charter and many rules for social hierarchies. We learned a lot from this experiment, including moving away from social and ideological fights and refocusing solely on the on-chain aspects of DAOs.
Aragon DAO is the next representative voting DAO that focuses on on-chain rules and simply votes elsewhere. For example, this DAO only has a one-page charter. However, misaligned token incentives have caused some problems.
Anthony shares some progress for all DAOs. He addresses the huge questions: What do we owe to the mission and what do we owe to token holders? He talks about how adaptation is the key to resilience. Start simple and safe, then evolve.
