EM Fund Stock Recommendations and Country Commentary (November 1, 2023)
It was mentioned in a recent podcast that there may still be niche markets in China that can make money, but Western investors know this. All that is needed is for the government to “turn the dial a little bit”. And things can go wrong very quickly (for example, if you lose a huge amount of money…).
In another podcast with a fund manager discussing China, he mentioned that he had to decide if he was an investment. Tactical Investor or Long-Term Donation Investor. Then you have to think about the probability of a 100% loss if Russia invades Ukraine and you can no longer own certain types of stocks. In the case of China, the probability is not 0. Therefore, investing there may only be suitable for tactical investors.
Meanwhile, a recent fund letter discussed: Hong Kong’s unloved stock market And how basic it is isn’t that bad. Likewise, there are bright spots in the Hong Kong local economy that are benefiting some stocks in certain sectors.
Lastly, as I mentioned on Monday, I needed to use my expiring frequent flyer miles and am planning to visit Japan (Tokyo-Kyoto-Tokyo) over the next two weeks. But I will continue to write.
