Ripple and Peersyst announced a strategic move to enhance the XRP Ledger (XRPL) EVM sidechain by leveraging evmOS, a modular and customizable technology stack powered by Evmos. This collaboration aims to further develop the XRPL EVM sidechain, which is currently in the Devnet phase.

The XRPL EVM sidechain will benefit from evmOS, which provides a customizable framework built on top of the Cosmos SDK. This technology enables Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility and provides access to over 60 Cosmos SDK chains through the Inter-Blockchain Communication Protocol (IBC). By integrating with evmOS, the XRPL EVM sidechain conforms to industry standards and becomes part of the versatile web3 ecosystem known as Interchain.

evmOS provides a variety of modules centered around the EVM implementation of the Cosmos SDK, including IBC functionality, EVM extensions, and access to decentralized application (dApp) stores. Its modular nature prioritizes native cross-chain applications, giving developers the flexibility to extend the XRPL EVM sidechain on their own terms.

XRPL’s entry into the interchain ecosystem

For example, XRPL users can perform transactions on Osmosis, a chain that is not EVM-compatible, without having to switch wallets or reconnect to another chain.
