Litecoin

A new Litecoin-focused Lightning project is almost here.

We are now less than a week away from this year’s Litecoin Summit, hosted by the Singapore-based Litecoin Foundation. Finally, Wang Xinxi, one of the organization’s directors, publicly introduced the new project via Twitter. The tweet reads as follows:

“Something big is going to happen. @loshan1212 soon. #Litecoin #LTC

Loshan has been an active Litecoin developer since 2013 and is best known for his work on the Litecoin Core full-node software and Loafwallet, currently the largest standalone Litecoin wallet for iOS and Android devices. Although he works as an independent developer, Loshan works full-time on Litecoin and the wider ecosystem with the support of a foundation.

Despite this teaser release, Loshan isn’t scheduled to speak at the Summit, so it’s unclear when exactly this untitled project will be revealed, or if we’ll hear more at the actual event. However, more details were hinted at in Loshan’s follow-up tweet. decided:

“Something related to ⚡”

Considering his previous work and proficiency in IOS development, it might not be too much of a stretch to assume that this untitled project is a new mobile Lightning wallet for Litecoin. This will be a first for Litecoin and will break down some of the barriers users currently face when trying to onboard to layer 2 networks. This means running a full node on the LND software, which requires some technical understanding to safely install and manage. .

Another possibility is that this may have to do with deeper infrastructure. Litecoin support can be developed for additional implementations beyond Lightning Lab’s LND.

Loshan said he has stepped away from Loaf development in recent weeks and has decided to no longer allocate any more time to development, instead refocusing all his efforts on new Lightning projects moving forward.

“Starting last week, I officially took over all matters related to LoafWallet.”

We’re told Loaf will continue under new leadership in Kerry Washington, who will speak about the next major release on the first day of the Summit next week. He said about this move:

“I joined the Litecoin Foundation in 2017 primarily to improve the LoafWallet iOS app while also working with Charlie to create product plans for the future. At a recent lunch, he proposed taking on a role that oversees all aspects of LoafWallet, including the iOS as well as Android codebase and backend resources. This also means continuing our work with partners such as Simplex, Changelly, Ternio and BiBox. I am excited to take on the role and look forward to sharing new things related to Loafwallet at the Litecoin Summit.”
