American Airlines faces strike threat as union talks stall By Reuters

(Reuters) – The union representing flight attendants at American Airlines (NASDAQ:) Group on Friday asked workers to prepare for strike action after contract talks with the airline failed to reach an agreement.

“We disagree on the core economics of the deal and the company’s completely unacceptable demands for schedule concessions,” the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) said in a statement.

APFA said the National Mediation Board (NMB), which is overseeing the negotiations, would bring the two sides together for a “final effort” in the next two weeks.

American Airlines and NMB did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside regular business hours.

U.S. lawmakers have urged NMB to take action to help some 80,000 flight attendants secure contracts.

United Airlines flight attendant, alaska airlines (NYSE:) Group, American Airlines and Frontier are among more than a dozen airlines still trying to close new contract deals.
