Democrats Exclude Bitcoin and Crypto from 2024 Platform, Consistent with Past Hostility

The Democratic Party’s official 2024 platform, released today on the first day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), made no mention of Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies, a decision that is consistent with the Biden-Harris administration’s hostility to the industry over the past four years.

Despite the growing importance of Bitcoin and digital assets, neither Kamala Harris nor Tim Walz, who are running for President and Vice President in November, have prioritized Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies on their party’s agenda.

Republicans, on the other hand, have embraced Bitcoin and made it a core part of their platform. They have pledged to end the Democrats’ “illegal and un-American crackdown on cryptocurrencies” and oppose the creation of a central bank digital currency (CBDC). Republicans have also pledged to protect Bitcoin mining rights, ensure that Americans can keep their digital assets in their own custody, and maintain financial privacy from government surveillance.

The differences in approach between the two parties were further highlighted when Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump spoke at the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville and emphasized his support for the industry. Meanwhile, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris declined to speak or participate in the event.

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also expressed support for Bitcoin during a speech at the Bitcoin 2024 conference, further highlighting the growing political divide on the issue.

As the 2024 election approaches, the absence of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies from the Democratic platform could have implications for the votes of the estimated 50 million Bitcoin and crypto holders nationwide, who are looking for the best candidate to defend their positions.
