Talent and Building the Future: Inside the B-Stock Internship Program

B-Stock’s internship program launched in 2021, and since then we’ve welcomed and had the pleasure of working with over 30 interns! From Finance and Product to Engineering and Marketing, our interns have left their mark on both B-Stock and its employees. What’s more, we’ve found that they are drivers of measurable impact and innovation.

The 10-week program, offered virtually and in-person, brings together top talent from universities across the country. As part of the internship, each intern is assigned a project and has a dedicated manager to guide them through the project. You’ll also work with team members from each department to learn the inner workings.

In true B-Stock fashion, we also made sure we had plenty of time to play. Each summer, specially curated events and activities are held for interns, giving them more opportunities to connect with others at the company! Our summer team members participated in a variety of virtual activities, including pizza and pretzel making, quizzes, social happy hours, wellness sessions, alumni panels, and baseball field trips.

Now, take a trip down memory lane, hear stories from former interns and managers, and find out what our amazing internship program has to offer!

From interns to office workers, meet Julia!

We sat down with People Operations Assistant Julia Attard to hear more about how she transitioned from summer intern to full-time employee.

Julia’s journey began with B-Stock’s first batch of interns (Summer 2021) working in the Marketing Department. Many of the skills she used back then translate into her work ethic today as she leads the People Ops program and organizes upcoming internship functions.

What was one of the biggest lessons she learned while interning? resourcefulness. Here’s what Julia said:

“Now that I work directly with new employees, I help them onboard and welcome them to the company on their first day. I am supporting them during their first week at B-Stock by providing them with resources and sharing recommendations to help them succeed.”

We are so happy that Julia remains a part of the B-Stock family. She is not alone! We’ve added a handful of former interns to our ranks as we continue to grow at the company.

It takes a village (and some really good hiring)

Interns work closely with managers throughout the duration of the program. Therefore, we asked Vajira Nissanka, UX Director and former Intern Manager, to tell us about her experience during the Summer 2024 program.

Q. What is the most rewarding thing about managing interns?

The most rewarding aspect is being able to watch their growth and deliver production quality designs despite my lack of work experience. Basically, seeing them do impactful work for the company gives you the experience and confidence to grow your career beyond B-Stock.

Q: What do you hope interns (or others) take away from their B-Stock internship experience?

Above all, I hope that you will feel confident in your abilities by the end of the internship program. To do that, you need to identify and understand that you are doing impactful work. The more initiative you take during the program, the more impactful tasks will be assigned and completed. We were fortunate to have many interns who contributed many key features to our product.

Another important factor in attracting top talent is great hiring! Recruiting Manager Brandon Jackson is a champion for recruiting interns. Here’s what he had to say about the program:

Q: How is hiring an intern different from hiring a full-time employee?

For many of my interns, I am the first recruiter they have ever worked with. I take on a huge responsibility to make sure I leave a positive impression on recruiters.

Q: Have you looked at intern recruitment trends from the start of the program until now?

Artificial intelligence (ChatGPT, etc.). This generation of interns is directly impacted by AI. It is up to them to become responsible stewards of those technologies and pave the way for a future that positively impacts the world.

Q. What is the most rewarding part of hiring interns?

Changing people’s lives for the better. It helps me sleep at night knowing that I am having a direct impact on the trajectory of their professional lives.

Hear from past interns

With support from across the organization, we’ve seen our interns thrive year after year. Hear from two former interns about their experiences and key takeaways.

“I gained a stronger understanding of how to analyze data and how to apply it to specific projects. I was exposed to a variety of customer calls and learned first-hand how to solve problems as an Account Management Intern.”

“My experience working as an intern at B-Stock was all positive. I enjoyed working with everyone in the Boston office. Everyone was friendly, welcoming and willing to help. “I felt endless support throughout the summer.”

– Sabrina Glaser, Account Management Intern 2024

“Prioritizing and making compromises is critical both on a large scale (balancing the vision for future product/direction and near-term goals) and on a small scale (ensuring that the design meets the needs of all teams involved).”

“I’m very proud to be able to participate in such a big project and contribute to the team by answering questions and unblocking engineers.”

– Angelica Wang, Product Design Intern, Class of 2024
