Kuwait prohibits Bitcoin mining for energy problems and legal violations
Kuwait’s Ministry of Home Affairs banned Bitcoin mining, referring to excessive power consumption and violation of national regulations.
In a April 22 statement, the government warned that the country’s encryption mining operation violated the existing law.
The authorities pointed out that encryption mining violated Kuwait’s criminal law, communication and IT regulations, industrial laws and local governments.
The ministry continued to say that this operation puts impossible burden on the electric grid of the country and potentially threatened public safety.
According to the authorities:
“My grandfather insists that cryptocurrency mining can lead to excessive consumption of electrical energy, increase the load on public grids, influence residential, commercial and service areas, threatening public safety and affecting regular provisions of essential services.
As a result, public officials urged all people related to mining to stop operations or face legal results.
Meanwhile, the latest enforcement measures strengthened the extensive prohibition issued by Kuwait’s capital market authorities in 2023, which banned other passwords.
But this new warning is a joint initiative related to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Electrical and Renewable Energy and other regulators.
According to them, their collective goal is to prevent infrastructure deterioration and promote responsible energy use.
Global transition to Bitcoin mining
While Kuwait strengthens the limit, several countries continue to accept Bitcoin mining as part of a broader digital asset strategy.
