‘We live longer, but the longer we live, the sicker’: Rejuve CEO

While most people immediately associate artificial intelligence with tools for writing term papers or designing art projects, AI technology is being leveraged to push the boundaries of longevity and health. One company leveraging AI to achieve better health outcomes is St. Lucia-based Rejuve.

First launched in 2018 by SingularityNET founder and CEO Ben Goertzel, Rejuve is a biotechnology company that aims to use artificial intelligence and distributed technology to help people live healthier lives.

“AI allows us to process data at much faster speeds and in more complex combinations than if we had people just endlessly reading paper and everything,” said Rejuve CEO Jasmine Smith. decryption. “Just being able to have a personalized medicine theme can be more disseminated through AI, because AI can analyze data and support decision-making for clinical providers.”

Advances in technology and medicine have increased the average human lifespan, and according to data research company Macrotrends, average life expectancy in the U.S. is now 79 years, a 0.08% increase from 2022. But just because people live longer doesn’t mean they live better lives.

“What we see is that even though life expectancy has increased globally, the incidence of chronic diseases is increasing at roughly the same rate,” Smith said. “So we’re living longer, but it’s like we’re living longer and sicker.” She suggested that more people are living into their 90s but spending their last months or years in bed.

Of course, living a long, full life is the goal of most humans. But longevity technologies tend to work best for wealthy people who can afford the tests, drugs, specialty foods and treatments needed to reverse aging. So-called “biohacking clubs” are springing up around the world to cater to the elite.

Rejuve aims to democratize longevity through its recently launched Rejuve Longevity app and associated digital asset tokens and NFTs, leveraging the Ethereum, Cardano, and BnB Chain blockchains. Smith explained that people who sign up to use the Rejuve app can earn tokens in exchange for keeping their provided data and profile up to date.

“One of the things we’re doing with the (Longevity) app is we’re able to crowdsource data not just from specific populations, but from people all over the world,” she said. “We can combine data in ways that benefit individuals, but also at a population level (and) discover what has the greatest impact on aging and solutions that can help flatten the curve of disease.”

Smith said the Rejuve app aims to break down complex concepts like aging into simpler terms that are more relevant and easier to understand.

Billionaire biohacker Brian Johnson says stopping “self-destructive behavior” is an essential part of living longer and healthier lives as he continues his search for the fountain of youth.

“We all have this version of ourselves inside ourselves that commits self-destructive behavior and continues to do so,” Johnson said in an interview. bloomberg. “Often, the greatest benefits can come from stopping some of our self-destructive behaviors.”

Others who have spoken out calling for a better life include popular longevity figure Dr. David “Agingdoc” Barzilai. He revealed his identity in November after going under a pseudonym on social media.

“We want to live a good life,” Barzilai said. “It would be wonderful if we could live as long as we want, as long as possible, and spend more time with our families. But we want to be healthy and feel good while we’re together.”

Last October, Peter Lee, Microsoft’s vice president of corporate research and incubation, praised OpenAI’s ChatGPT for helping his family understand complex medical jargon while caring for his elderly father.

“Some of it was fuel, and ultimately it was our lack of understanding of these lab tests and reports that started the fire,” said Lee, who gave ChatGPT the three most important questions to ask when talking to your doctor. He said he granted it.
