After Paris 2024, furniture and sports equipment will find a second life.

Ever wondered what happens to all the sports equipment, furniture and other items used to decorate the various stadiums at major sporting events? The furniture and equipment from the Olympic Village and sports stadiums in Paris are getting a second life courtesy of B-Stock and their partner RGS Events (talk about supporting a circular economy on an Olympic scale!).

To support sustainable event management initiatives, Olympic sponsor RGS Events (the Official FF&E Games Project Manager) is selling over 45,000 pieces of furniture, fixtures and equipment used to decorate athlete apartments, Olympic villages and sports venues. Items such as arcade games (pool tables, ping pong tables, foosball tables), chairs (desk chairs, barber chairs, office chairs), sofas, tables and benches are being sold in bulk to the highest bidder and will be delivered after the Games.

In fact, as of this blog’s publication, most of the items have already been purchased and are set to find a second life with 4 different business buyers in Europe!

Here are some additional fun facts about the sale (showing what it takes to build an Olympic-sized town!):

  • A buyer purchased 10 truckloads of inventory.
  • 6,000 chairs were auctioned, including desk chairs, barber chairs, office chairs, outdoor chairs and decorative chairs.
  • 3,000 sofas in various colors and sizes for sale
  • The number of belt barriers reached the highest number ever, approaching 10,000.
  • There were thousands of lockers available.
  • The remaining items can be bid on at https://bstock.com/majorsportingevent/.

Take a look at some of the items we have for sale:

This partnership between B-Stock and RGS Events aims to redefine event management and sustainability practices for major sporting events, and reflects both companies’ commitment to reducing waste and promoting second life for merchandise. Fun fact: In the first half of 2024, B-Stock sold over 350 million items through our recommerce platform, preventing over 700 tons of inventory from going to landfill.

Here are the two companies’ opinions:

“We are proud to partner with RGS Events to provide business buyers around the world with the opportunity to own a piece of history,” said Eric Moriarty, VP of Account Management at B-Stock. “This partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration in advancing sustainability initiatives. Together, we can maximize the value of surplus inventory, minimize waste and contribute to a more sustainable future.”

“This collaboration not only allows us to deliver memorable events, but also promotes sustainability and responsible consumption. By giving furniture and equipment a second life through B-Stock, we are contributing to a more circular economy,” said Elliot Ramler, Commercial Director at RGS Events.

Furniture and equipment are sold through B-Stock’s various secondary market sales channels, including its online auction store, https://bstock.com/majorsportingevent/.
