Applications for the $100 Colorado food tax rebate and utility assistance begin tomorrow.
Some Coloradans may be eligible for food tax refunds and utility assistance if they apply before the deadline and meet eligibility requirements. Specifically, the Colorado Food Tax Rebate and Utility Assistance is for low-income residents of Greeley, Colorado. Authorities plan to start accepting applications on February 1.
Colorado Food Tax Rebate and Utility Assistance: Who Can Receive?
Greeley’s food tax rebate program has been around for several years, but this is the first time utility assistance has also been added to the application. Utility assistance will be credited to eligible residents’ water bills.
Greeley residents can apply for a $100 Colorado food tax refund for taxes paid on food purchases in 2023, and starting Feb. 1, they can apply for a $100 utility credit. $100 food tax rebate per person and $100 utility assistance per household.
Greeley residents only need to submit one application for both programs. The last date to apply for a Colorado food tax refund and utility assistance is May 31. To qualify for the refund and assistance program, residents must meet income guidelines set by family size.
For example, the standard income for a single-person household is $36,972. If there are two members, it’s $48,360. For 3, it’s $59,736. For 4, that’s $71,112. For 5 people, it’s $82,500. Price for 6 people is $93,876. 7 is worth $96,012. 8 is worth $98,148. For each additional person after eight, the base income increases by $2,124.
In addition to meeting the income criteria, applicants must have lived in Greeley for at least 10 months in 2023 and be a Greeley resident at the time of application. The same requirements apply to both programs.
How to apply
To complete the Colorado food tax refund and utility assistance application, applicants must provide identification and proof of residency as well as proof of income, including Social Security benefits, VA benefits, Social Assistance, wages and other income.
Applicants may claim refunds for family members claimed as legal dependents on federal Form 1040. When submitting an application, you must provide each applicant’s Social Security number.
Applicants should visit greeleygov.com/finance to apply for food rebates and utility assistance. Applications are available in English, Spanish, Malay, and Somali. Paper applications and bilingual assistance are also available at Greeley City Hall, 1000 10th Street, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applicants may also call (970) 350-9748 for assistance.
Food tax refund checks are printed periodically and mailed to the address listed on your application. Utility credit will be applied to selected applicants’ water bills once income is verified. It may take up to three weeks after you submit your application for your food tax refund check to be mailed and for your water bill credit to be applied.
