Australian regulator probes ANZ over government bond issuance By Reuters
(Reuters) – ANZ Group Holdings said on Monday Australia’s corporate regulator is investigating the lender for alleged breaches of the law when the Australian Office of the Financial Supervisory Authority (AOFM) executed a 10-year government bond issue in 2023.
ANZ has been appointed by the AOFM, which manages the Australian Government’s debt portfolio, to act as risk manager in relation to government bond issuances.
Earlier in the day, the Australian Financial Review, citing sources, reported that the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) had begun work after receiving a complaint from AOFM. It had been sold.
“ANZ is aware that ASIC is investigating alleged breaches of a number of provisions of the ASIC Act and the Corporations Act,” ANZ said in a statement.
It added that it is complying with its regulatory obligations and cooperating fully with regulators.
ASIC and AOFM did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
