Every industry is looking for ways to leverage AI to gain a competitive advantage, but few have a more difficult relationship with technology than Hollywood. Nonetheless, new startup Avail has announced the beta launch of its script outlining platform. He said this will save film and TV producers from having to read through long drafts to select the one they want to turn into a blockbuster.
Built on top of OpenAI’s GPT-4, Avail claims its AI tools are fine-tuned to minimize hallucinations and provide easy document scanning without the need to first train user data, have no length restrictions, and offer high security. After the 30-day free trial, a subscription fee of $250 per month is charged.
A customizable, standalone paid ChatGPT plan costs $20 per month.
“We hope to give script readers the superpower to boost their output tenfold, similar to what Excel achieved for accountants in the 1980s,” said Chris Giliberti, co-founder and CEO of Avail. decryption. “Our solution significantly improves productivity.
“Even with Avail, script analysis requires human judgment,” Giliberti admits. “Avail allows script leaders to spend more time on the deep thinking work involved in assessing the creative quality and potential of submissions.”
More and more projects targeting film, TV and video game companies are coming online, creating a cottage industry to help entertainment industry workers who need to get more work done with shorter turnaround times and at lower costs. I’m doing it.
During the months-long WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes earlier this year, AI was critical to contract negotiations and demands. Writers and actors have accused Hollywood producers of using AI to recreate actors or write new scripts based on old content without permission or proper compensation.
He also said Avail was far less likely to solve the problem.
AI hallucinations refer to the habit of generative AI models producing false or untrue statements when responding to user prompts, a common failure across services. Last October, new lawyers for former Fugees member Pras Michel filed a motion for a new trial, claiming AI hallucinations led to Michel’s conviction on money laundering and witness tampering charges.
Others working on projects aimed at Hollywood include Lore Machine, which uses generative AI to create producible storyboards based on text prompts.
“Our goal and what we’re building, we want to see as multimodal,” said Lore Machine founder Thobey Campion. decryption. “You can bring in multiple systems for text synthesis, and you can use multiple systems, both proprietary and (third-party), for media creation.”
Looking to the future, Giliberti said Avail is working with partners, including Range Media Group, to develop a “comprehensive suite of tools” developed to satisfy executives in the entertainment industry.
“We are working with Range to create custom models focused on budgeting and production planning use cases as well as business operations insights,” he said.
Avail did not disclose how much it has invested in the company, but Giliberti said Avail’s investors include venture capitalist Alexis Ohanian and General Catalyst. Other investors include Advancit Capital and Liontree.
“With the boom in AI-based apps, the unique combination of Chris’s creation experience and John’s tech pedigree is helping Avail stand out,” said Ohanian. “We are inspired by their vision to develop new technologies that provide greater exposure to Hollywood creatives.”
