Bitcoin Core’s ‘v26.0’ upgrade aims to thwart eavesdropping and tampering.
According to the proposal, “This proposal for a new P2P protocol version (v2) aims to improve this by significantly increasing the cost of conducting such attacks, primarily using unauthenticated and opportunistic transport encryption.” The main benefit is that “encryption hinders eavesdropping by allowing attackers to enable it even when unauthenticated and only used when both endpoints support v2.”
