The Bitcoin Ordinals inscription from the Quantum Cat project was sold for more than $250,000 at the famous auction house Sotheby’s. presentation On Monday.
According to Sotheby’s, the “Genesis Cat” Ordinals inscription by digital artist FAR received more than 50 bids, reaching a winning bid of 6.31 BTC, or approximately $254,000.
Earlier this month, Taproot Wizards released the Quantum Cats collection of Bitcoin Ordinals inscriptions. The cost to create a project consisting of 3,333 images on the Bitcoin blockchain is over $66,000. The sale of the wider collection will take place on January 29th.
About the Quantum Cats collection, Taproot Wizards co-founder Udi Wertheimer previously said: decryptionIt is intended to pay homage to the early code of the Bitcoin network, called Connect or OP_CAT.
“‘OP_CAT’ is Bitcoin’s ancient ‘op code’ that Satoshi introduced in the first release but was later disabled,” Wertheimer said.

According to Bouhanna, more than 26 BTC (worth approximately $1,097,000) were sold through primary digitally curated Ordinals sales, with 641 bids and 100% of auction lots sold.
“Half of our sales were sold at a higher price than expected,” he added.
Although this is Sotheby’s’ first Bitcoin Ordinals-focused sale, the renowned auction house has previously handled many NFT sales on Ethereum. For example, the institution auctioned numerous NFTs once owned by bankrupt Three Arrows Capital, including an Art Blocks NFT nicknamed “The Goose” that sold for $6.2 million last June.
