Bitcoin
Blockchain – What happens when all transactions are used?
The transaction ID is a 256-bit hash of the transaction header data and is therefore a 256-bit integer. There can only be two unique numbers of the powers of 256 that can be stored in 256 bits.
Bitcoin now has a rule that transaction IDs must not be duplicated on the blockchain.
If all the hashes are used and exist on the blockchain, there can be no more transactions under the current rules.
But 2256 That’s a big number. This is very close to the number of atoms in the universe.
