Road to Altair Edition 🛣⭐️

tl;dr

Pyrmont fork, testing underway

After a series of small but very valuable Altair devnets, Pyrmont, a large public testnet, received an upgrade last week. The transition to Altair went smoothly, setting the stage for the next phase of testing and upgrades.

Pyrmont is ringing the bell this week as we run a number of things. test scenario to Support will be discontinued soon Testnet. Don’t panic! At the time of this writing, Pyrmont is already epoch 482 indeterminate and many validators have been offline for several days. These tests not only help eliminate corner cases from the consensus code, but also help highlight client issues when handling load in exceptional scenarios.

Next is Prater

With Pyrmont upgraded, the next step is Prater, a larger, longer-term testnet. The client team agreed on an upgrade date of September 2 (12:00 PM UTC). View the full configuration of the Altair Prater network here.

Stay tuned for client releases that include the Prater fork configuration. This will take effect over the next week and you will be able to upgrade your testnet nodes in preparation for the fork next Thursday.

After your Prater upgrade, it is a good time to drive various actions on your network. Shut down the validator and cut yourself. Have fun!

When will mainnet Altair?

There is still a lot of work to do, but the Altair mainnet fork is fast approaching. Assuming relatively trouble-free testing on Pyrmont and a successful Prater upgrade, the client team is targeting an Altair mainnet launch at the end of September 🚀
