This project records the address and private key of 1BTC on a physical replica of Bitcoin weighing 43kg and sends it to the moon on a ULA (United Launch Alliance) Vulcan rocket.
Bitcoin is scheduled to be loaded onto the commercial lunar module Peregrine 1, which will be transported by rocket. The rocket was launched from the Florida Spaceport on the 8th and is expected to reach the lunar surface on February 23rd.
BitMEX CEO Stephan Lutz said:

Preserved for future generations, Bitcoin on the Moon will become a time capsule recording one of humanity’s most important innovations and technological advancements.
This decisive leap forward is just the beginning of a new era.

BitMEX stated that the purpose of this mission is to demonstrate the potential of Bitcoin and blockchain in creating an era where financial systems transcend various boundaries and expand into space.
ULA, which supplies rockets, is a joint venture between Lockheed Martin, which develops the F-22, the world’s highest-performance stealth fighter, and Boeing, the largest aircraft developer, and boasts high technological prowess.
