Cryptocurrency wallet maker Keystone releases Bitcoin-specific firmware for flagship devices

Cryptocurrency wallet company Keystone recently released Bitcoin-specific firmware for its most advanced device, the Keystone 3 Pro.

Keystone, which rebranded from Cobo Vault in June 2021, has been producing cryptocurrency wallets since February 2018. The company first released Bitcoin-specific firmware in 2020 and has now released a refined firmware version taking customer feedback into account.

“From the beginning, we have been committed to listening to the Bitcoin community to develop the most secure hardware wallet,” Keystone CEO Lixin Liu told Bitcoin Magazine.

“After receiving feedback from the community, we rewrote the embedded system using Rust, which is often considered the least bug-prone, and open sourced every line of code so users can scrutinize and verify firmware integrity at any time. “I did,” he added.

The new firmware also supports security-oriented features such as implementing Shamir Backup and importing three different seed phrases.

Not only is the new firmware more secure, but the Keystone 3 Pro itself was designed with security in mind. The device is air-gapped, contains three secure element chips, and has a built-in self-destruct mechanism that deletes all stored private keys when physical tampering is detected. Users can also generate seed phrases without first pairing with the underlying software, eliminating the potential risk of private keys being extracted through software.

“In addition to security upgrades, we also focused on improving usability,” Liu told Bitcoin Magazine.

Liu highlighted how the firmware works seamlessly with Blue Wallet, Sparrow Wallet, and Nunchuck, and how the Keystone 3 Pro has a 4-inch color touchscreen and fingerprint scanner, making logging into the device more convenient. He also said that the device’s battery life is more than 20 times that of its predecessor.

The Keystone 3 Pro is currently selling for $129 on the company’s website, Amazon, and Newegg.

“We have kept our products affordable without compromising on product quality, UX and security,” Liu added.
