eth2 quick update number 6

welcome to this week eth2 quick update! A handful of new eth2 testnets have come online and I’ve had them for the past week. All running on my laptop. There is still a lot of work to be done, but it is becoming a reality :).

tldr;

Comprehensive level 0 audit by minimal agency

We are pleased to announce the upcoming eth2 specification audit. least privilege. This is a comprehensive security audit. eth2 core level 0 specifications We focus on important topics such as Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, resource misuse attacks that can lead to unintended forks/hostile chains, network-related attacks, and any attacks that affect your funds.

Least Authority is a leading expert in mechanism and incentive design, distributed/distributed system architecture, and blockchain system analysis. The Ethereum Foundation has previously collaborated with the Least Authority on the following tasks: discv5 thanks and Gas Economic Analysis and Proof of Work, and we are very excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with them again. A comprehensive security audit is critical to the successful launch of Phase 0, and we eagerly await the initial report to be released in early February.

Lighthouse launches testnet with mainnet configuration.

last week, sigma prime Long awaited release Public Lighthouse Testnet. This testnet is impressive. You have run the mainnet spec configuration. At its peak, it could easily handle 16,815 active validators!

As Sigma Prime stated when they launched this net, “We’re going to try to crash this testnet, and we think we’ll succeed,” and they succeeded. After recovering from more than 100 epochs of inactivity due to two of the validator-heavy nodes going offline, the Sigma Prime team fixed some bugs, made some new optimizations, and took the network down for a fresh start. decided. soon. Please confirm Post-mortem here. As discussed on today’s eth2 call, the team plans to relaunch the testnet tomorrow and release it for public use after initial stability testing.

remember Active If you think you have what it takes, join these early testnets. If anything is not clear in the documentation, please let me know. If you have trouble compiling, open an issue. If there are typos in the readme, please correct them! This applies to all clients and open source software in general. The more actively you give back in this process, the better it will be for everyone.

P.s Sigma Prime is hiring for a full-time position. Experienced Rust developer I’m going to work at the lighthouse. Check it!

Nimbus integrates the default nim-libp2p.

Earlier this year, the Ethereum Foundation, Protocol Lab, and Status We jointly funded a grant to Nimbus. To create a native nim language libp2p implementation. this implementation It was intended to be integrated into the nimbus eth2 client as well as a p2p networking option for devices with limited resources.

We are excited to recently announce Nimbus. I’ve integrated this default implementation: We plan to add it to the codebase and relaunch the testnet this week. This is a huge milestone for both Nimbus and the larger p2p community due to Nim’s ability to compile concise and efficient code for most computer architectures. The Nimbus team continues to achieve success. They are truly an engine powerhouse! Everything about P2P!

Added Lighthouse support in beaconcha.in

bitfly’s open source eth2 block explorerbeaconcha.in, just Additional support For the lighthouse! Just take a look hereHowever, it is currently inactive until Lighthouse reboots the network.

We’re excited to see several client implementations onboarding to help create a common interface for external software to query and understand the internals of eth2. These and other tools will be invaluable for monitoring, understanding, and interacting with the upcoming testnet and ultimately mainnet!

Eth2 specification release schedule

The eth2 specification version has been released. v0.9.3 — rm signature_root and have v0.9.4 Test fixes and network updates are in the queue. This is the last one. v0.9.x A series of minor updates since the phase 0 freeze was lifted in October. These recent specification releases have primarily focused on ensuring that Phase 0 beacon chains are flexible enough to accommodate: New level 1 sharding design, but some cleanups, bug fixes, improved testing, and networking updates were also included in the changelog. Many of these changes have been informed and driven by ongoing client progress on testnet and general preparation for mainnet.

The next expected release date is early January. this v0.10.0 The release will be dedicated to the integration of: Addition of new BLS standard to core eth2 specification. that much v0.10.x A series of releases with production-grade BLS will be the subject of a final testnet and ultimately mainnet release. There is still work to be done, but heroic efforts across all fronts are underway to address it. Thank the client team (or money/tips/etc!). These engineers are building something truly amazing for all of us :rocket:.
