Ethereum Protocol Attackathon in partnership with Immunefi
The Ethereum Protocol Security (EPS) research team is excited to announce the launch of the first Ethereum Protocol Attackathon. immune. This four-week event aims to strengthen the security of the Ethereum protocol through a large-scale crowdsourced security audit competition. Our goal is to raise over $2 million for the reward pool, and EF has provided an initial seed of $500,000 for the pool.
Ethereum Security Support
We encourage the entire Ethereum community, from projects to individual developers, to participate in this important event. Contributing to the reward pool directly strengthens the security of the Ethereum ecosystem, creating a safer environment for users and developers.
The Sponsorship Program will end on August 1, 2024, after which the final reward pool will be locked and details about the Attackathon will be announced. Community members can participate in the Sponsorship Program. here.
Join us in our efforts to secure the Ethereum protocol and help make this Attack-A-Thon the biggest yet.
What is Attack-A-Thon?
Attackathon is a time-limited audit challenge to strengthen the security of the Ethereum protocol. It starts with an educational phase where participants receive guidance on the protocol code through live technical walkthroughs and educational content from Attackathon Academy. This phase ensures that participants are well-prepared to identify and understand potential vulnerabilities.
During the Attackathon, security researchers will actively search for vulnerabilities in the protocol code. They will follow specific rules set for the competition, and only influential and compliant reports will be rewarded. This phase focuses on real-time problem solving and applying knowledge gained in the early phases.
After the Attackathon, Immunefi will evaluate the results and compile a formal report detailing the vulnerabilities discovered, highlighting the top researchers, and honoring their contributions and expertise.
This event aims to strengthen the security of the entire Ethereum protocol codebase by conducting the largest-ever crowdsourced security audit.
Why partner with Immunefi?
Immunefi is recognized for its experience in the web3 security field and manages a large community of security researchers. They have secured significant user funds on a variety of projects and have a track record of identifying and mitigating security risks.
Immunefi’s Attackathon emphasizes education and community engagement. Participants benefit from a structured environment that includes live explainers on Ethereum and security, as well as educational content from the Attackathon Academy. This collaboration aims to deepen the community’s understanding of Ethereum’s code and technology, and contribute to its security.
Future Security Challenges
The EF Protocol Security Research Team is committed to continuous security improvements. We plan to hold a similar Ethereum Protocol Security Challenge for every hard fork that involves a change to the codebase. These events are organized on a variety of platforms, providing the community with a variety of opportunities to participate in Ethereum protocol security.
