Full Node – How do I update Bitcoin Core if compiled from source?

Edit: I misread the question, but here are instructions for upgrading Bitcoin Core using binaries from bitcoincore.org.

First you need to quit bitcoind.

A new Bitcoin Core version has been released on bitcoincore.org.

The exact command to upgrade will then depend on your operating system.

Binaries for specific releases are available on their site. For example for v26 it is here:

You can type it in Linux/Gnu.

wget https://bitcoincore.org/bin/bitcoin-core-26.0/bitcoin-26.0-x86_64-linux-gnu.tar.gz

You can unzip it using:

tar xzf bitcoin-26.0-x86_64-linux-gnu.tar.gz

This will save the new, untarred binary to the following location: /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin And you have to copy bitcoind, bitcoin-cli and bitcoin-qt your ./bitcoin Delete the directory and remove the old entries. bitcoind, bitcoin-cli and bitcoin-qt Binaries in that directory.

for example sudo mv bitcoind bitcoin-cli bitcoin-qt ./bitcoin from within /usr/bin
