What you need to start registering
Here’s a summary of all the information that makes up your buyer profile:
- Company Name: Business name (can’t be changed later!)
- Business address: This is the address listed on your business tax documents. PO Box addresses are not accepted.
- Employer Identification Number (EIN): This is an identification number issued to businesses by the federal government. Your EIN is not the same as your reseller tax ID.
- Reseller Tax ID*: It is issued by the state government to authorize the collection of taxes upon sale to the end consumer/customer.
- Shipping address: This is where you will receive your order. If you have multiple shipping locations, you can enter additional addresses.
- Commercial and Residential: You will also be asked whether your address is zoned commercial or residential and whether you can unload your truck at this location. This is important for future order delivery. Check your city’s government website for a zoning map.
- contact: Telephone/mobile number to receive shipping updates, payment notifications, and inventory notifications (depending on your notification settings).
- Import/export documents (if applicable): If you are interested in shopping internationally, you will be asked to provide your freight forwarder information. (Note: Not all sellers allow reselling outside the US. See a list of sellers that accept export here.)
- Responsible recycling documentation (if applicable): If your business is R2 certified, you have the option to add documentation. Some mobile merchants ask for this information when you shop in their stores.
Reseller Tax ID/Resale Certificate
This is the most important document you need to submit because it allows you to purchase wholesale goods tax-free. (It is your responsibility to collect this when reselling to customers.) Resale certificates vary by state. Differences may occur depending on where your inventory is shipped to.
*Reseller Tax ID may go by different names depending on the country, state or province in which your business is registered. Other names you may know this from include business tax ID number, seller’s permit number, sales tax certificate number, or sales tax ID number.
tip: The first reason for delays in profile approval is an invalid resale certificate. Check back to make sure your information is up to date!
