(Reuters) – Honda Motor Co’s U.S. unit is recalling about 2.5 million vehicles due to a risk of fuel pump failure, which could cause the engine to stall while driving and increase the likelihood of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said.
NHTSA said dealers will replace fuel pump modules free of charge to resolve the issue.
The recall involves certain models of the Japanese automaker’s most popular models, including the 2018 to 2020 model years. Honda (NYSE:) Accord, Civic, CR-V, HR-V, Ridgeline, Odyssey and other Acura models.
According to NHTSA, the fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail. Owner notices will be mailed by February of next year.
The announcement comes a day after regulators announced a recall of about 106,030 CR-V hybrid vehicles due to a risk of fire or injury in a crash caused by overheating or shorting of battery cables.
