Important Update: Transition from CoinJoin in Trezor Suite | Posted by SatoshiLabs | May 2024

last week, we announced CoinJoin for Trezor Suite will be discontinued starting June 1, 2024. As we approach this transition, we want to provide you with additional details and assurances about the privacy measures we will continue to maintain for your funds and your privacy.

Please note that all funds in your CoinJoin account will remain accessible after conversion.

This blog post aims to provide:

The decision to discontinue CoinJoin follows the announcement of the termination of the CoinJoin coordination service by zkSNACKs, the CoinJoin coordinator used by Trezor. These adjustments are essential for functionality, without which CoinJoin cannot remain in the Trezor family. We want to reassure you that this decision was made after careful consideration and is consistent with our core value of transparency across all of our operations.

  • Access to your funds
The funds in your CoinJoin account can be accessed indefinitely. There is no need to transfer Bitcoin to a standard account. This is because your existing CoinJoin account continues to be secure.
  • Privacy and Security
Although new CoinJoin transactions will not be possible, the privacy of existing combined funds will not be affected. Your CoinJoin account remains the most personal way to manage your Bitcoin in Trezor Suite.

Although CoinJoin is no longer supported, we are committed to exploring and integrating other powerful privacy features. Our users can still use Tor, practice coin management, and adhere to best practices such as avoiding address reuse and separating KYC and non-KYC Bitcoin. We also recommend the Vexl service for the most private peer-to-peer buying and selling of Bitcoin. We continue to focus on strengthening other privacy and security features within the Trezor Suite.

  • Why did CoinJoin suddenly stop?

On May 2, 2024, zkSNACKs, the CoinJoin coordinator used by the Trezor Suite, announced that it would discontinue its CoinJoin coordination service by June 1, 2024. This prompted our announcement and the discontinuation of CoinJoin functionality on Trezor.

  • Will the outage affect all users globally?

Yes, Trezor Suite’s CoinJoin feature will be discontinued for all users globally starting June 1st.

  • Can I continue to use my CoinJoin account after the service discontinuation date?

totally. Your CoinJoin account will remain active and can be used to safely manage your Bitcoin. This account continues to offer a high level of privacy with integrated features such as connecting via Tor, which is required by default. However, you will no longer be able to initiate CoinJoin transactions.

  • Should I move all the Bitcoin from my CoinJoin account back to my standard account?

Not recommended. In fact, there is a risk that CoinJoin Coin’s privacy will be violated if you do so.

We understand that these changes may be concerning, but please be assured that we are moving through this transition carefully. All funds in your CoinJoin account will remain accessible after conversion. If you have any additional questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact our support team.
