International Shipping: How It Works, Exporting Documents, Compliance

B-Stock connects global buyers with excess and returned inventory from top retailers. If you are interested in cross-border shopping through North America, South America, Europe, Africa or Asia, we can help.

International buyers can participate in the B-Stock marketplace through: Freight transport or direct export (depending on seller qualifications) Understanding export documentation and compliance is essential to avoid delays and ensure smooth delivery.

Partnership with freight forwarding services

A freight forwarder is a company that arranges for the import and export of goods. Partnering with a freight forwarding company is the best way to handle the logistics of cross-border shopping and, most importantly, ensure export compliance.

International buyers will be asked to submit valid freight forwarder information upon registration. This shipping document must be on the company’s letterhead and confirm that you are a current customer with permission to use the address.

To participate in international shopping, you must follow these steps:

  1. Complete overseas buyer registration
    • If you are registering for the first time, freight forwarding company information is required for overseas shopping.
    • If you live in the United States and choose to start importing/exporting later, you can upload those documents to your buyer profile.
    • All business buyers must submit required business and tax documentation.
  2. Explore sellers available to international buyers (see full list below)
  3. On the listing details page Choose how you want to receive your prize.International Shipping: Select how you would like to receive your item.
  4. Next, the inventory is shipped to a freight forwarder. You will then need to arrange shipping yourself for export.
    • Depending on eligibility, some sellers allow direct shipping outside the country where the seller is located.

Export resources

Before you begin your buying journey, familiarize yourself with the following export resources: When purchasing and shipping internationally, having the correct documentation is non-negotiable.

Export Compliance

Last but not least is export compliance. Compliance is a critical issue when it comes to cross-border shopping. And if you’re dealing with $10,000, $100,000, or $1 million worth of retail goods, you’ll want to pay attention to export regulations (or risk hefty fines and legal repercussions).

Please note the following:

  • U.S. law prohibits shipping certain products to restricted countries.
  • Products may require an export license depending on the category.
  • Buyer is responsible for complying with the following: US export laws and Destination import law.

Best practices for compliance:

  • Work with a licensed freight forwarder or customs broker.
  • Check the embargo list and export control regulations.
  • Maintain complete transparency about product categories and final destination.
  • Retain all documentation for record keeping and audit purposes.
