Investing.com – Japanese stocks were lower after the close on Friday.

The worst participants in this session were: Tokyo Electron Co., Ltd. (TYO:) was down 8.74% or 3,210.00 points to trade at 33,550.00 at the close. Lasertech Co., Ltd. (TYO:) fell 8.42% or 3,160.00 points to close at 34,310.00. Dainippon Screen Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TYO:) fell 6.95% or 1,255.00 points to 16,810.00.

On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, stocks that declined outnumbered stocks that rose, from 3,425 to 355, with 101 ending unchanged.

Shares of Kao Corp. (TYO:) rose to a 52-week high. It rose 1.59% or 98.00 to 6,280.00.

The Nikkei 225 index, which measures the implied volatility of options, rose 3.08% to 22.77, hitting a three-month high.

Crude oil for May delivery rose 1.47% (1.22%) to $83.95 per barrel. In other commodity trading, Brent crude oil for June delivery rose 1.43%, or 1.25%, to $88.36 per barrel, while the June gold futures contract fell 0.05%, or 1.20%, to $2,396.80 per ounce.

USD/JPY fell 0.16% to 154.38, while EUR/JPY fell 0.26% to 164.17.

U.S. dollar index futures rose 0.07% to 106.06.
