Kleros and Q development partners
Q Development AG, the company behind the development of the Q Protocol, announced a collaboration with Kleros, a decentralized dispute resolution protocol, to provide a more resilient governance solution for DAO projects.
Known for its fairness and efficiency in resolving conflicts within a decentralized ecosystem, Kleros is an Ethereum-based autonomous organization founded in France that leverages blockchain, crowdsourcing and game theory to provide an alternative to the centralized definition of cryptocurrencies. .
The partnership aims to combine the strengths of Kleros’ dispute resolution procedures with Q’s capabilities to enforce on-chain and off-chain decisions. This will make the DAO more secure, establish accountability, and increase transparency and trust.
Seamless governance, enhanced security
By default, Q’s DAO embraces optimistic on-chain governance, ensuring a rapid decision-making process. This means that successful proposals without conflicts can be executed on-chain by the DAO itself without any external dependencies. However, to enhance governance security without compromising agility, DAOs need a safety net, an external body that can fairly evaluate decisions when conflicts arise. This is where Kleros steps in and provides the option to challenge DAO decisions and maintain governance integrity.
“Accountability is a fundamental pillar of strong governance. We are pleased to see the emergence of a ‘constitutional check’ on DAOs, and eagerly look forward to the integration of Kleros Courts at Q as a cornerstone service to maintain checks and balances within DAOs.said Federico Ast, Founder and CEO of Kleros.
Maintaining Constitutional Integrity
The DAO can ensure that its decisions are constitutional by appealing to the Kleros Court. This is a pivotal aspect of the ecosystem that is often overlooked. Decisions resulting from DAO votes may be appealed to the Kleros Court in accordance with the DAO Constitution. This integration introduces a mechanism of checks and balances, holding the DAO accountable to its founding principles and fostering trust within the community. In this way, arbitrary criteria such as DAO objectives, individual stakeholder responsibilities, or qualitative proposal standards can be enforced, allowing DAOs to operate beyond the law-of-the-law paradigm.
“DAOs have long recognized the limitations of relying solely on code during conflicts, but finding reliable solutions has been difficult. With Kleros’ track record of leveraging human judgment within Web3, I believe Q’s DAO will have access to the Kleros Court. We hope this will serve as an external reference point to ensure compliance with the DAO constitution and foster trust within the community.said Gerrit Brugge, DAO Ecosystem and Community at Q Development AG.
Expanding the scope of discretion
By leveraging Kleros services, DAOs can acknowledge the scope of human judgment. This is a matter of decision-making and inconsistency in the DAO. As Eigenlayer’s recent token whitepaper aptly explains, the need for (inter)subjective evaluation is undeniable, but it requires an external reference point. Kleros, along with the governance services provided by Q, pave the way to make this happen.
Enforcement through governance services
Crucially, in addition to the evaluation and judgment provided by Kleros, execution is also taken into account. Q’s dedicated governance service allows the Kleros Court to serve as an independent judicial service for dispute resolution. They can then leverage Q’s root node network to enforce rulings within the Q ecosystem through governance services.
Roadmap to Success
Thanks to the existing prerequisites, the path to integrating Kleros services into Q’s DAO is clear. The existing standards for DAO configuration, combined with governance services for the Q ecosystem and Q’s diverse and fair set of root nodes, provide a strong foundation for seamless integration. These building blocks ensure fairness, accountability, and anti-corruption, which are essential principles for effective governance in a decentralized ecosystem.
vision for the future
Going forward, the potential of Kleros services for Q’s DAO is endless. By bridging the gap between internal decision-making and human judgment through an external point of reference, we point the way toward a governance paradigm of transparency, accountability, and trustworthiness.

Introduction to Kleros
Kleros is an open-source online dispute resolution protocol that uses blockchain and crowdsourcing to adjudicate disputes fairly. Development efforts are coordinated by Coopérative Kleros, the Société Coopérative d’Intérêt Collectif (SCIC) established in France. All of our research and code development is open source and free for anyone to use.
