KZG Awards Special Donation | Ethereum Foundation Blog
The special donation period for the KZG Awards ran from April 1 to 16, 2023. This allowed participants to donate in ways that would not have been possible during an open giving period. Although only one honest participant is needed to provide a secure result, special contributions provide additional guarantees beyond standard entropy contributions.
- Computing entropy in an isolated environment (e.g., wiping and physically destroying the hardware on an air-gapped computer) means that there is no possibility of a malicious entity extracting the entropy at any point.
- It is unlikely that all of the detailed documentation attached to the actual reputation (link navigation below) has been stolen or forged by a malicious mediation entity. The records are available for future observers to explore.
- Risks related to different hardware and software limitations
- Differentiated entropy generation (e.g., explosion measurements) prevents Ceremony output from being corrupted by some errors in general entropy generation (e.g., hosting interface).
- Contributions from many people are more difficult to fake than contributions from just one person. This allowed participants to contribute in ways that would not have been possible during an open giving period. For example, it requires more time than typical slots or requires unique entropy generation methods involving larger groups.

02 – KZG Marble Machinery
The KZG Marble Machine is a work of art/device with different track sections showing different stages of Ethereum history. Justin Florentine created a dice tower that can collect entropy for the event and help determine the outcome of tabletop games. The dice tower was a sealed box where dice were rolled and photographed with a Raspberry Pi (and a camera) before being collected in a sealed chamber. We then used computer vision to read the dice, which are used to determine success/failure/damage for a given roll, and added the die values to an internal entropy accumulator. This opens a trap door and returns the dice to the player. By the end of the game, 1024 bits of entropy had been collected and the SD card used on the Pi was burned until it was destroyed.

cat’s proof Alternatively, Cattropy is a project that collects entropy from cats playing with a ball. This was accomplished by embedding a custom PCB. ESP-32 microcontroller and MPU-6500 6-axis IMU Place it in a plaited ball and hand it to your cat (or human). The ESP-32 then collects data from the accelerometer and gyroscope, hashes it with an entropy accumulator, and provides that entropy via Wi-Fi to a server that performs PoT calculations.
