LoafWallet offers its own Litecoin debit card.
The Litecoin Foundation has taken things a step further through partnerships with Bibox and Ternio (the upcoming ‘special edition’ Litecoin BlockCard). The organization shared new screenshots showing the debit card working and integrated into LoafWallet, the most popular standalone IOS and Android Litecoin wallet.
“This is an exciting partnership for us because it furthers the Litecoin Foundation’s mission to create more use cases for Litecoin in everyday life.” -Charlie Lee, Executive Director of Litecoin Foundation.
new Image shared via the organization’s Twitter account, which appears to display a dedicated page for managing all card-related activities within Loafwallet. However, it is unclear whether users will be able to fund their cards through Loaf or whether they will need to log into the dedicated blockcard app to perform these operations. But what we do know is that, just like Apple Pay, users will be able to pay from their cards using NFC within Loaf.
It appears to place more management features within Loaf, which will be welcomed by those using it as their primary wallet. The card also allows users to spend Litecoin at all major retailers that accept traditional card payments.
Like other cards, user coins have no sovereignty and must be deposited on the service (Bibox exchange) to process cryptocurrency trading and sales at the current market rate. According to Bibox, they have access to massive liquidity amounting to over $200 million worth of cryptocurrency trading volume. Nonetheless, there are spending limits ranging from $2,000 to $5,000 per day, depending on the card type.
Although Ternio boasts that there are absolutely no fees for transactions, deposits, or exchanges on the site, the company collects fees elsewhere, including a $5 monthly maintenance fee unless you spend it. >Meanwhile $750. There are fees for ATM interactive wand pin transactions as well as card replacement and account closure.
The foundation hopes that this move will ‘help drive the adoption of cryptocurrency spending in everyday life,’ with Charlie Lee saying.
“Leveraging Ternio’s BlockCard platform and Bibox’s exchange engine will provide Litecoin holders unparalleled access to spend LTC at merchants around the world,” the user said.
Users can access any of the 12 cryptocurrencies supported by Ternio through their cards, but it’s clear that this partnership is primarily focused on Litecoin. This includes Ternio and Bibox tokens. It is not yet clear whether users will need to acquire these tokens to use the service. This may seem unnecessary, considering that other services do not need to use special tokens.
“Through our partnership with the Litecoin Foundation and Ternio, we can leverage Bibox’s powerful exchange platform to provide consumers with more options to use cryptocurrency with unprecedented ease.” Bibox co-founder Aries Wang.
A launch date hasn’t been announced yet, but we’re told the special edition debit card will be released to US customers first and non-US customers later.
