May 2023 Work Progress Report: Kaspa and Cortex Block Rewards Reduction
When compensation decreases
Following the planned Kaspa discharge schedule, a significant event occurred on May 8, impacting mining communities associated with Kaspa. Block reward for mining has been reduced from 233 KAS to 220 KAS. This change reflects the Chromatic Phase of Kaspa’s monetary policy, where block rewards decrease geometrically over time.
It is important to note that this reduction is part of Kaspa’s own monetary policy designed to ensure a fair distribution of KAS and the long-term sustainability of the network. These changes are essential for the evolution of the network and compliance with the predetermined roadmap. At 2Miners, we are committed to supporting miners through these adjustments and providing an efficient and profitable mining environment. Cortex compensation reduction
Cortex (CTXC) blockchain held a halving event on May 2nd. As a result of this significant adjustment to the network monetary policy, block rewards for miners have been reduced from 7 CTXC to 3.5 CTXC per block. This halving process, inherent to the Cortex protocol, effectively reduces mining rewards by 50%, impacting the rate at which new CTXC tokens are created and injected into the market.
For miners in the 2Miners pool, this means a reduction in the amount of CTXC tokens they earn for their computational contributions. Nonetheless, while miners’ immediate earnings may be reduced, historically such halving events tend to create a scarcity effect and could potentially increase the value of a cryptocurrency over time. Therefore, the impact of this event on the long-term profitability of Cortex mining is yet to be seen.
Mining Pool Updates
We have made several major updates to the cryptocurrency nodes of the 2Miners mining pool, ensuring smooth operation and enhanced security for miners. The updated nodes are:
- Zcash (ZEC) has been updated to 5.5.1.
- Horizon (ZEN) has been updated to 4.0.0.
- Monero (XMR) has been updated to 0.18.2.2.
- Vim has been updated to 7.3.14073.
Let’s take a closer look at each update.
Zcash (ZEC) 5.5.1 Update: This upgrade addresses an issue that could cause a node to crash if the privacy policy did not include ‘AllowRevealedRecipients’ while creating a transparently changing transaction. Additionally, fixes an issue where ZIP 317 legacy fees are underestimated when using UTXO, preventing delays or blocking of mining transactions.
Horizon(ZEN) 4.0.0 Update: This major update includes major new features and introduces a hard fork. Supports V2 sidechains and sets a future deprecation date. Key improvements include uninterruptible sidechains and key rotation, making the verification process more flexible without compromising security. This release ends support for Ubuntu Bionic, limiting future releases to Ubuntu Focal and higher.
Monero (XMR) 0.18.2.2 Update: The ‘Fluorine Fermi’ release introduces several improvements, including adding a size limit on tx_extra to the transaction pool, preventing log entries when reblocking a subnet, and fixing infinite loops when selecting fake out. This update also enhances security by adding Ledger Stax support.
Beam 7.3.14073 Update: This hotfix addresses an important bug that temporarily halts the creation of new blocks by creating invalid blocks. It optimizes block generation and lists some known limitations, such as not being offline for more than 24 hours and not providing the same offline address to multiple payment senders when using an active laser beam channel.
