Musk responded by questioning LeCun’s recent scientific contributions. It is implied that LeCun was simply following orders rather than demonstrating independent thinking.
In his follow-up response, LeCun acknowledged his appreciation for Tesla products, but then strongly He criticized Musk’s treatment of the scientific community and his “wrong predictions.” This is equivalent to achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI) by 2025.
LeCun explored Musk alleged attacks on democratic values; Emphasizes the important role of a free and diverse press in maintaining reliable information and the functioning of democracy. He argued that Musk’s hatred of traditional media is consistent with authoritarian tactics aimed at undermining democracy.
Additionally, LeCun criticized Musk. They promote outrageous conspiracy theories for their own benefit. He cited instances in which Musk was alleged to have spread misinformation, including the ‘PizzaGate’ scandal and claims of election fraud. He said:
Technological visionaries are expected to be rationalists. Rationalism does not work without truth.
At the time of writing, Musk has not yet responded to LeCun’s criticism.
Overall, this public debate highlights the conversation about the responsibilities of technology leaders to promote accurate information and ethical behavior within their industries.
This is not the first time Musk has been publicly criticized. Last April, Ripple CTO David Schwartz challenged Elon Musk’s policy of charging X users. He said this contradicted his declared defense of absolute freedom of expression.
