(Reuters) – Microsoft (NASDAQ:) executive Dee Templeton has joined OpenAI’s board as a non-voting observer as part of a broader board shakeup, Bloomberg News reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The maker of ChatGPT made headlines last November when CEO Sam Altman was briefly ousted by OpenAI’s board, then reinstated days later after more than 700 employees threatened to quit the company and join backer Microsoft.
Altman said that after returning to his position, Microsoft will take a non-voting observer position on OpenAI’s board.
Observer status means that Microsoft’s representatives can attend OpenAI board meetings and have access to confidential information, but Microsoft does not have voting rights on matters, including election of directors.
Templeton, a 25-year veteran of the tech giant, is currently the company’s vice president of technology, research partnerships and operations, according to her LinkedIn profile.
The report added that she has already started attending OpenAI’s board of directors.
OpenAI and Microsoft did not respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.
OpenAI agreed to partially reorganize the board that fired Altman, joining Bret Taylor, former co-CEO of Salesforce (NYSE:), former U.S. Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, and Quora CEO and current board member Adam D’Angelo: said. You will be part of the Board of Directors.
