More than half of Fortune 100 companies use Apple’s Vision Pro headsets.
Apple’s Vision Pro headset, a mixed reality spatial computing device, has been adopted by most Fortune 100 companies, with more than half purchasing at least one.
The company’s CEO Tim Cook relayed this information during Apple’s first quarter 2024 earnings call, citing the adoption of Vision Pro as a sign of increased enthusiasm for the company’s products.
“For example, more than half of the Fortune 100 companies have already purchased Apple Vision Pro devices and are using them to find innovative ways to accomplish tasks that were previously impossible.”
The Vision Pro was released in the US in early February 2024 for $3,499. Since then, it doesn’t appear to have made much of a dent in the consumer market, where there are much cheaper options, like Meta’s Quest line of VR headsets.
However, as Cointelegraph recently reported, the Vision Pro headset and Apple’s leadership in spatial computing are poised to bring metaverse into the mainstream and become the default choice for enterprise adoption.
While the most popular headsets tend to offer virtual reality experiences that are fully immersive in a digital space, Vision Pro is designed for mixed and augmented reality experiences that combine the real world with digital images.
Apple calls this spatial computing.
It appears that companies adopting the Vision Pro are using the device for metaverse-related corporate functions rather than leveraging it for gaming and social products. One such example is the use of headsets to train doctors to perform surgeries when cadavers are not readily available.
Cook also teased upcoming updates during the earnings call, saying Fortune 100 adoption is “just the beginning.” He added, “We are preparing exciting product announcements next week that we think our customers will enjoy.”
It’s unclear if this has anything to do with Vision Pro. Rumors suggest that the Vision Pro 2 will be released in 2026, with a cheaper model arriving in the meantime. If true, Apple’s next “Let Loose” event on May 7 could be the perfect time for the company to announce a cheaper Vision Pro in 2025.
