Parallel swept the Gam3 Awards with three wins, including Game of the Year.
The second annual Gam3 Awards have concluded, with Parallel taking top honors in several categories, including Best Strategy Game, Best Card Game, and the prestigious Game of the Year award. Celebrating the efforts of the web3 game development team, the event showcased the diverse potential of blockchain technology in games.
Hosted by GAM3S.GG (formerly Polkastarter Gaming), the Gam3 Awards selected a total of 40 finalists from 214 nominated games. Game of the Year finalists included My Pet Hooligan, Wildcard, Big Time, Deadrop and last year’s winner Big Time.
Parallel, which has not yet been officially released, is a science fiction trading card game (TCG) that combines traditional game mechanics with the advanced features of blockchain technology. Developed on Ethereum by Parallel Studios using the Echelon Prime ecosystem, the game completed its closed alpha phase earlier this year. Participants had the opportunity to explore all game modes, experiment with different cards, and provide feedback to improve the game. Players are currently participating in a closed beta that includes $25,000 tournaments, and the full on-chain version is scheduled for release in 2024.
The game is rooted in a dystopian future story. It takes place in a world where Earth has been devastated by an antimatter cataclysm, forcing humanity to colonize space and create unique civilizations, each with unique abilities and backgrounds.
The world of the game is represented by five parallels: Earthen, Marcolian, Augencore, Kathari, and Shroud, each representing a different faction that has evolved over thousands of years. These groups come together in a quest to harness Earth’s newfound energy, creating conflicts and alliances that provide players with an immersive storytelling canvas.
Parallel’s gameplay allows players to collect and use NFT-based cards and create decks to engage in strategic battles with others. This deck may represent a single faction or a universal composition that can be applied to multiple factions. The game operates on a play-and-earn model where players physically own their digital cards and earn PRIME tokens, a utility currency within the Echelon ecosystem.
PRIME tokens provide a variety of functions including value transfer, rewards, and governance participation. Tokens residing on the Ethereum network have risen 58% in the past 30 days, reaching an all-time high following the awards ceremony. Since then, it is said to have rebounded 13% along with the overall market. CryptoSlate data.
Players can experience Parallel’s many game modes, such as The Ladder, where they compete in one-on-one combat, and Sector, where they start with a deck of 30 cards and modify it as they progress. Rookie Queue provides a training ground for new players, providing an immutable rookie deck that evolves with player experience.
