Artificial intelligence (AI) surveillance cameras that will be used in the Olympics are currently being tested.
AI-based camera enters testing phase ahead of Paris Olympics
According to a report in The Telegraph, the upcoming Paris Olympics are planning to feature AI-based cameras that can detect up to eight distractions during competition. Suspicious natures that the tool can identify include traffic against the flow, presence of people in restricted areas, movement of crowds, abandoned packages, presence or use of weapons, overcrowding, dead bodies on the ground, fire, etc.
In preparation for real-world use, French police decided to test surveillance cameras at two Depeche Mode concerts in Paris this week. Therefore, individuals attending the Depeche Mode concerts held on Sunday and Tuesday become test subjects for the camera experience.
Six of these AI-based cameras have been deployed at Accor Arena. They will be deployed inside and outside the stadium to see how they can monitor crowd movements and how well they can detect suspicious movement. It is worth noting that Paris has rules allowing the use of AI in sports and recreational activities, so there are currently no violations of the law.
The law was designed as a means of preventing a repeat of the unfortunate situation that occurred during the 2022 Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid at the Stade de France. Some fans struggled to get out of the crowd and were eventually hit with tear gas.
