Portugal’s maiden hackathon for ICP developers has concluded.

The first-ever “Build on ICP” hackathon has concluded. It was a success to say the least, as all winners were announced at a showcase event on March 18, 2024. The event brought together Web3 builders from Portugal and Spain to showcase their talents and innovations. Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) Blockchain.

The hackathon, which ran from March 11 to March 18, saw participants compete for a total prize pool of over €20,000 and opportunities for additional DFINITY grants. Because it is a hybrid hackathon, the last day is ICP Hub in LisbonIt’s where independent builders and teams work tirelessly to demonstrate cryptocurrency projects with the goal of launching the next startup, showcasing their technology, or making a valuable contribution to the ICP and web3 ecosystem.

“Build On ICP” Hackathon Winner

The Build on ICP Hackathon kicked off from February 26th to 29th with an engaging online program, immersive virtual workshops, and dedicated team support. This initial phase set the stage for an intensive weekend of “IRL Hacking” taking place at the ICP offices in Lisbon from Friday 1st March to Sunday 3rd March. During this important day, participants diligently refined their innovative products and honed their presentation skills to prepare for the important presentations ahead.

The culmination of their efforts was showcased at the final showcase and announcement of winners on Monday, March 18. This event marked an important milestone in the hackathon as participants had the opportunity to present their completed projects to an esteemed panel of judges including: RightShift Capital, comma 3 uppercase lettersand Dfinity themselves. The same goes for our audience of peers and industry experts.

The winning projects are:

#1: ICP Lending Protocol

ICP Lend Protocol stands out as a pioneering DeFi platform taking cryptocurrency lending to the next level. By integrating advanced features such as HTTP requests and timers, the protocol provides users with a seamless experience and ensures real-time updates and automated actions. Price feed integration and automated clearing execution highlight the platform’s commitment to user convenience and experience.

2nd place: TruMarket

TruMarket is reshaping the agricultural sector by leveraging automated smart contracts to secure funding for fruit growers. This approach benefits all stakeholders by ensuring transparency and traceability throughout the supply chain, and is only possible with the web3 technology stack. The platform’s commitment to leveraging ICP for practical and impactful solutions is very clear.

3rd place: Hacking

Hack introduces a governance platform for Ethereum DAO that leverages on-chain voting and HTTP Outcall to streamline the decision-making process. This project demonstrates the versatility of IC protocols that support cross-blockchain functionality.

These projects clearly demonstrate the diverse applications of the IC protocol and highlight the innovative spirit of the community. As winners celebrate their achievements, the wider ecosystem can look forward to the continued development and implementation of these solutions.

Grand prizes for the Build on ICP hackathon include €2,500 from USDC, a comprehensive go-to-market strategy worth €10,000, and the possibility of a grant from the DFINITY Foundation. The second-place project will receive a promotional campaign worth €5,000 and receive €1,500 in stablecoins, while the third-place winner will receive €1,000 in stablecoins.

Introduction to the ‘Build on ICP’ Hackathon

The “Build on ICP” hackathon was an open event with no specific tasks, tracks or themes, encouraging maximum creativity and innovation within the web3 community in Portugal and Spain. The presented project was introduced to influential parties in the ICP and web3 ecosystems and others building tools and applications on Internet computers. The judging panel included esteemed members of Lightshift Capital, 3Commas Capital and DFINITY Foundation, all of whom were impressed by the capabilities of the contestants.

All participants were original builders of the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP), and part of the admission requirements were completing the ICP certification course and creating smart contracts on the blockchain. The event aimed to improve the quality of ICP dApps and unleash the passion of talented builders to contribute to an open and autonomous Internet.

The success of the “Build on ICP” hackathon marks an important milestone in the growth of the ICP ecosystem. It showcased the talent and creativity of the participants, while also highlighting the potential of Internet computer protocols to support a wide range of applications, from DeFi to agriculture.
