Pro-XRP Lawyer John Deaton Challenges Prominent Cryptocurrency Critic Elizabeth Warren in Senate: Report
XRP supporter and lawyer John Deaton is reportedly considering challenging Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren in the upcoming 2024 U.S. Senate election.
The Boston Globe reported that Jim Conroy, former campaign manager and political advisor to former Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, is consulting with Deaton about the possibility of joining the Senate race as a Republican candidate.
Conroy said the attorney was “seriously considering” whether to run and would make a decision in the coming days.
According to the report, Deaton, who served as an amicus lawyer for XRP holders in a case brought by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against blockchain payments company Ripple, said if Warren decides to pursue a Senate bid, He is said to be his first major challenger.
Warren, who is seeking a third term, is a staunch critic of cryptocurrency who proposed the Digital Asset Money Laundering Prevention Act last year. The bill proposes to extend Bank Secrecy Act requirements, including Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, to the digital asset industry.
