Protocol – Reverse engineer Bitcoin into the official specification

Are there any attempts/projects to reverse engineer a reference implementation of Bitcoin other than the unofficial explanation (I found it)? official specifications?

I tried searching and couldn’t find anything using the official method, but I think I’m using the wrong keywords. Thank you for providing any reference or insight.
