Request for application for ecosystem support program

Introduction to ecosystem support program

Initially, most Ethereum-related development and research took place within the Ethereum Foundation. Today, the Ethereum ecosystem has grown from a small garden into a vast, vibrant rainforest. In the process, the Ethereum Foundation’s role within the ecosystem has changed in much the same way. However, supporting Ethereum as best we can remains our top priority.

at DEV grantsto Grants focused on scalability), to universal support, subsidies have long been a big part of how we support Ethereum. Increasing the impact of your grant program has multiple benefits. So this is one of our top priorities.

This year, the Ethereum Foundation grants team strengthened its capabilities and addressed its weaknesses to become a true ecosystem support program. In the process we got:

  • Expanding the ways applicants can receive support
  • We incorporated a much broader expert base as part of our evaluation process.
  • Improving the Candidate Experience
  • The Ethereum Foundation has proactively identified and established collaborations with people, projects, and entire domains that could benefit.
  • … And many more (e.g. our local grant program)!

An expanded version will be released soon. Ecosystem Support Program Website. This will give you more details about all the ways we can provide support and make it easier to find those details in the future (eventually for every person in the Ethereum ecosystem, there will be dozens more 🙂 ). In future blog posts and using the Ecosystem Support Program website, we will provide a 2019 review of the projects and people we supported, how much was allocated, how we conducted evaluations, etc.

call to apply

Within the Ecosystem Support Program team, we have a group dedicated to supporting applicants, including helping them improve their applications and directing them to advisors and potential collaborators. Today we are going to take things one step further with this Call For Application. We’re excited to be able to help with a wider range of projects, testing and improving our ability to provide support.

The following is a list of application types of particular interest.

  • Light client for eth2

    • This also includes if you are interested in forming or joining a team dedicated to building industrial-grade eth2 light clients.

  • Bridge between Ethereum and other blockchains
  • If you are a mathematician interested in learning about problems related to Ethereum or the field of cryptoeconomics that leverage your skills, we would like to hear from you.
  • Exploring the security-usability trade-off space for cryptoassets.

    • For example, a wallet’s social recovery mechanism or rules that vary depending on asset type/value/other properties.

  • Anything with credible practices that can improve the Ethereum developer experience (at all levels of the stack).

    • We look for applications that clearly describe the problem they are trying to solve, identify how many people are affected, and explain what options are available today.

  • translator

    • Bonus points for sharing past translations and/or a list of key targets for translation and explanation of priorities for selection.

The above list aims to convey the scope of ecosystem support programs, but is far from an exhaustive list of what is important to Ethereum. We remain interested in applications related to other areas, such as previous categories such as scalability, usability, education, security, etc. As always, we look to our community and active contributors to help us expand our understanding of the changing needs of our ecosystem.

So don’t be shy if your project or idea doesn’t fall into one of the above application types. Whether it’s a big project, a small, precise idea, a team that knows exactly what they want, an individual with rare skills trying to apply it in the best way, or something we haven’t even thought of yet, we’re here for you. I’d like to hear your opinion.
