RTX 3080 Mining Hash Rate Review
The RTX 3080 is widely praised as one of the best gaming GPUs to date. There’s no denying that it’s not only more powerful than the RTX 2080, but it’s also cheaper, offering better performance for the price.
Since the card has only been out for a few months, little is known about its mining performance. Luckily, one of my friends happened to be building a monster gaming rig featuring a Gigabyte RTX™ 3080 VISION OC 10G and the next-gen Ryzen 5 5600x. This beast of a PC can run Call of Duty Warzone at an average of 240fps.
The guy was kind enough to let me test the GPU on several mining algorithms.
NOTE: I’ll be getting my hands on the RTX 3090 soon to benchmark and test it on my own rig.

Gigabyte RTX 3080 VISION OC 10G Mining Hashrate
As you can see below, our first test with the 3080 didn’t produce the most surprising results. There are two reasons for this.
- still No software support Then we will be able to fully exploit the mining potential of 3080. We need both better mining software and better drivers. This is very common for cards that are new to the mining community. Note: Could not test with Bminer due to library errors.
- that much gigabyte The version is obviously memory cooling issues, which causes hashrate to decline over time. This problem Eagle OC, Vision OC, and Gaming OC cards.
On the other hand, the Asus RTX™ 3080 10G is a card that is reported to hash out up to 97Mh/s, but we haven’t had a chance to test it yet. I’ve also never experienced cooling issues with the 2080 and 2080Ti Gigabyte cards, so this is a new phenomenon. We will learn more about this issue one day and keep you updated.
The power consumption of the GeForce RTX™ 3080 Vision OC is quite high, up to 350W at standard clocks and around 250W at 70% power limit. I obviously run Ethash at lower power consumption settings which gives it an average of 85Mh/s. The full list of algos and their hashrates is as follows:

RTX 3080 vs. RTX 2080 vs. GTX 1080Ti mining hashrate
Etash Hashrate | power consumption | power efficiency | efficiency* | |
Gigabyte RTX 3080 | 85/Mh/sec | 225w | 0.37/mh/s per watt | 0.077Mh/s per dollar invested* |
Gigabyte RTX 2080 | 41.1Mh/s | 105w | 0.391 mh/s per watt | 0.034 Mh/s per dollar invested* |
Gigabyte GTX 1080 Ti | 40Mh/s (approx.) | 165w | 0.242 mh/s per watt | 0.04Mh/s per dollar invested* |
This is based on the best price I can currently find. The GPU market is known to be volatile, so these numbers should be used as a guide only.
To date, the Gigabyte 3080 has not provided the best power efficiency despite reducing power consumption by 30%. Another thing to keep in mind is that powerful PSUs are expensive. Therefore, it may be more profitable to assemble equipment that does not require a large PSU to operate, since it produces less and consumes less.
Now, if power efficiency isn’t that important to you, the 3080 offers a much better hash rate per dollar invested.

It’s difficult to draw any conclusions about the RTX 3080 at the moment. Since it is a new card, it is very likely that it has not yet reached its full mining potential. It seems like a better investment than the previous model, but that’s because the 1080 and 2080 are currently too expensive.
We will continue to update you on this, and the RTX 3090 to benchmark will be released soon. Good one!disclaimer
