sensex news of the day: 105-point jump in autos, metals power Sensex; Cool top 22,050

Indian stock indices recovered from a weak start to close higher after a very volatile session on Monday, led by auto, metals and energy stocks ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy decision this week.

The 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex surged 105 points or 0.14 per cent to 72,748. The broader NSE Nifty rose 32 points or 0.15 per cent to close at 22,055.

Among Sensex stocks, Tata Steel, M&M, JSW Steel and Tata Motors were the biggest gainers, rising 2.5-5 per cent. Axis Bank, Sun Pharma, Reliance Industries and Maruti also ended higher, while Infosys, TCS, Titan and Wipro closed lower.

Shares of Torrent Power closed 2.6 per cent higher after placing an order worth Rs 3,650 crore for setting up a 300 MW (RE Power) GridConnected wind-solar hybrid project.

Shares of DroneAcharya Aerial Innovations also closed 5 per cent higher after the company signed a contract to supply IT hardware to the Indian Army’s drone laboratory in Jammu and Kashmir.
